Architects study building science and work with the approaches and products that make a tangible difference to your energy bills and your indoor comfort. We can explain passive solar design, double glazing, shading for different orientations, insulation, heating and cooling systems, heat reflectance, acoustic insulation, reflective films, air-tightness and how to get off gas and go fully electric.

Often, big impacts can be made with low-tech and incremental interventions.

(Did you know that double glazing is often less effective than draft-proofing, for example? And draught-proofing is a LOT cheaper and you can do-it-yourself?)

We look at all of the possibilities thoroughly and holistically, and in the specific context of your home and site.

Most retrofit advice online is generic, but every home is different. An Architect GP takes the time to apply their experience to your questions and situation because the improvements that matter most will depend on your home's orientation, construction, climate, and how you actually use each room.

Your Architect GP brings a design eye to a retrofit conversation that's usually treated as a checklist. We'll talk through the key interventions in plain language, no-fuss, no jargon, so you understand what each one actually does:

• Electrification — what "getting off gas" really involves, and where to start

• Heat pumps — for heating, cooling, and hot water

• Solar hot water — whether it makes sense for your home and household

• Double glazing — where it earns its cost, and where it doesn't

• Insulation — the different types, and where they matter most in your specific home

• Shading and draft-proofing — often the cheapest interventions with the biggest impact

Your Architect GP isn't there to sell you every upgrade on the list. That can be tremendously refreshing! It's our role to assess, through design, which of these will genuinely make a difference to your home, and in what order, so your budget goes where it counts.

A pre-workshop Questionnaire to articulate your environmental goals and drivers.

A 90-minute workshop, in your home or online, where you'll get:

• A prepared Architect GP who has read your questionnaire, researched your home, and is ready to work

• A non-judgemental tour of your home, eyes only for what matters (piles of laundry are no big deal!)

• Architectural sketches to explore passive solar design and other strategies suited to your home and site

• Collaborative discussion exploring your options and their practicalities, and highlighting issues worth raising with future installers, trades, or technicians

• While we cannot provide specific costings, we will have a budget discussion, and how it might affect your decisions

• A verbal summary of key outcomes and next steps

Some Architect GPs offer infra-red imaging or other analytical tools; availability varies by location.

After the workshop, your Architect GP will provide a written Sustainability Report, including referrals to other consultants where relevant.

The value: you can act on the energy and momentum from the workshop, and start implementing straight away.

The total cost of the Package is $1,999 +GST.

This comprises a platform booking fee of $349 +gst to reserve your date, plus a Service Fee of $1,649 +gst that goes to your Architect GP.

You can book additional consultations with your dedicated Architect GP anytime with an Architect On-Call. As a returning customer you are entitled to book at the reduced follow-up rate!
