Louise O’Brien
I’m a registered architect and interior designer with 25 years of global experience. My background includes working with esteemed international firms like Gensler, B+H, and Woods Bagot, which has given me a broad perspective and deep expertise in design. I’m the founder of Apsara Collective in Surrey Hills.
What makes me, me, is my love of teaching and engaging with people about design. I lead the Architecture Club at the Sydney Opera House and am the author of 100 Things to Know About Architecture, reflecting my commitment to sharing knowledge about the built environment. I teach environmental design to TAFE and University students, and bring a practical and accessible approach to every interaction.
In my work, I focus on creating spaces that are both functional and delightful - places that look amazing while meeting the practical needs of my clients. I’m an Archtiect GP because I’m passionate about making good design accessible and helping people enjoy well-crafted spaces without breaking the bank.
As a designer and guide, my goal is to bring the benefits of thoughtful design to as many people as possible.

I’m the founder of Architects Anonymous, a small practice built around the idea of architecture without ego. That core value is why I’m an Architect GP.
My focus is always on clients and their needs, while crafting beautiful spaces that promote healthy living. While not everyone needs an architect to design their entire home, I believe everyone can benefit from an architect’s experience. I can help improve the efficiency of a design, advise on your best next steps, or provide a second opinion on construction matters. My passion has always been crafting finely detailed, bespoke homes that my clients love and cherish.
I have deep experience in the building industry, having worked on projects ranging from small apartment renovations to billion-dollar stadium developments. Outside my own practice, I work as a design manager for a major contractor, managing designs for cost and construction efficiency. I walk the walk and talk the talk.
When I’m not designing, you’ll usually find me around water - sailing, kayaking, or fishing - or traveling and immersing myself in new cultures.

I’m love collaborating with homeowners and guiding them through the often courageous journey of creating homes that truly reflect their needs and aspirations. I’m based in the lower Hunter region which has given me a deep appreciation of the unique blend of relaxation and adventure that locals love, inspired by the stunning surroundings - whether countryside, lakeside, or beachfront. My local insight helps clients see and realise the full potential of their homes in this beautiful area.
I founded HACK Architecture in Newcastle in 2012, and have specialised in residential architecture for over a decade. I am guided by the core values of People, Place, and Environment. My goal is to create homes that are not only beautiful, light-filled, and functional, but also deeply respectful of their context, sustainably planned and well constructed.
Outside of architecture I’m an avid sports enthusiast - from watching my kids play soccer to exploring scenic trails on a mountain bike. I’m also actively involved with Collective Heart, a local community-focused organization, which allows me to combine personal enrichment with my professional commitment to creating architecture that works in harmony with both people and place.
